When I made ‘100 Men I Never Met’, the act of publishing nude images of oneself online had seemed to me a stereotypically male idea. Then I learned from some of my hetero friends that women had turned to posting nude images of themselves online, and that the exchange of these images had become a part of the dating process. I was very curious about how women presented themselves sexually in a time when the traditional ideas about feminism (the male gaze, for example) had somewhat withered away. The page for casual sex on craigslist Los Angeles provided thousand of examples of such images. It is an open forum where approximately 500-700 images might be uploaded daily. I appropriated some of these images, and reproduced them exactly in paint. I felt it fair to begin with a painting of myself.
